Then you need The Fandom Dictionary! Full of terms that are used commonly in the instances of Fanfiction and Fangirling. [In alphabetical order, wut wut.] Enjoy!
This term is short for the words 'alternate universe'. In an alternate universe, characters might have twisted personalities, or switched roles.
Example: In an certain AU, the Powerpuff Girls wouldn't have super powers.
When something is 'canon', it means it is official.
Example: Didn't you hear? They are going to finally make it canon!
Cosplay is a combination of the words 'Costume' and 'Play'. You dress up as a certain character you like, but try to be a accurate a possible. You could say it's like Halloween... But there are also some serious cosplayers out there!
Example: I think I'm going to cosplay as Mabel at Comic Con!
A semi-professional fan manga. It can feature characters from other shows or anime.
Example: I know that Bleedman writes a doujinshi called 'PPGD'! It has characters from many shows including Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.
The community, or group of fans, of a certain TV Show/Book/Movie, etc.
Example: The Harry Potter Fandom has fans of young and old alike.
These are original stories people write, about a certain TV Show/Book/Movie, etc. that they like. Anything can happen in them.
Example: Did you read that Fanfiction about Snow White and the Huntsman? It was amazing!
Fangirling is the reaction someone gives in relation to something they like, and/or are obsessed with. These reactions might include high-pitched squealing, jumping up and down, smiling too much, talking too fast, and running around the house in utter excitement.
A fangirl/fanboy is far beyond the average, simple fan.
Example: Jill fangirls over Hayffie so much, it's almost normal by now.
This means 'Original Character'. It is an original character someone has thought of on their own, whether based on a certain fandom or not.
Example: Did you see the OC he made up for Doctor Who? If it was real, it would be so cool.
Not to be confused with 'OC', this is a terms usually used by Fanfiction writers: it means 'Out of Character'. It means the character isn't acting like him or herself.
Example: Peeta seems a bit OOC here. He should be more kind and caring.
This term is an acronym for the term 'One True Pair'. Your OTP is the ship you want to get
together the most.
Example: Percy and Annabeth from Percy Jackson are my OTP.
Fanfiction writers use this, simply because it is short for 'Point of View'. It can be used when the are changing from one character's point of view to the next.
Example: For the next section, it will be in Fang's POV.
A term based off the word 'relationship'. It is a pair of two people, that you would like to be together as a couple.
Example: I ship Austin Moon with Ally Dawson.
The action word for 'ship'.
Example: Are you really shipping Fletcher and Olive? But he belongs with Chyna!
